Grab your sombrero and poncho and get ready for a “muy” exciting year studying the Spanish language and culture.  By May, you will be familiar with time and weather expressions, basic phrases, Spanish alphabet and numbers, verbs, and conversational vocabulary.  Spanish 11 will learn more verb uses and vocabulary.  Spanish 111 - get ready!  You are going to conquer the language!

Studying a foreign language not only prepares you for an ever-changing world, it also expands your knowledge of English. Spanish is the second most spoken language in the world and is an official language of the United Nations.  Our society mandates a new global awareness that will soon require bilingual skills in all areas.  Not only will you enjoy this class, you will be able to USE what you learn.

Classroom Rules in a nutshell:  Don’t do anything to keep me from teaching or another from learning!

Be prompt   -   You must be in your seat working on your journal when the bell rings.  You must obtain an admit from the office if you are

tardy to 1st or 6th period or if you were absent on the previous day.

Be prepared -   Bring all supplies and assignments to class and be ready to work everyday.  Your supplies include pen or pencil, one 3 ring binder with inside pockets and a box of Puffs Plus with aloe or Kleenex Cold Care (optional).  You may wish to purchase a Spanish/English dictionary, but it is not necessary. You will find several online dictionaries listed on my webpage under the Homework Help link.  You will only receive three free hall passes per nine weeks to leave the classroom.  On the fourth and subsequent requests to leave the room, you will have to make up the time after school.  Be prepared and take care of business between classes when possible.

Be polite-         Be quiet when I am talking so that everyone has the same opportunity to learn.  Be respectful to me and to classmates. Do not throw things, aggravate a classmate or make fun of another.

Absences-         When you are absent IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to get all make-up work.   The blue stacking trays with your class description (Span 1, 11, etc.) will contain copies of handouts and lesson plans are on the board.

Assignments - All assignments will be turned in at the beginning of the class hour that they are due.  You will continue to do class work until the bell rings.  You will be required to put a heading on every paper that includes your name, assignment, date and the class title and period.  (For example:  Sp 1-2 means Spanish 1, 2nd period).

Grading-             You will have daily assignments, test, quizzes and oral evaluations.  There will be two 9-week exams per semester.  You and your parents have online access to the grade book.  Please contact the office for your username and password.  It is your responsibility to monitor your grades and make up any zeros.  Only zeros due to an excused absence will receive full credit.  Cheating consequences include a zero, a letter to the parents and a referral to the office.  Consult the handbook for more information on grading policies at www.sfisd.net.

Goals-                 Success!  Success!  Success!  I am here to help you succeed.  See me after school or make arrangements to meet with me before school if you need help.  No misunderstanding is too small to discuss.  If you have a problem with an at-home assignment, come in the morning to get help.  I will arrange special times for athletes and those who participate in UIL activities to attend tutorials upon student request.

Gum and personal grooming items are best left at home.  No foul language will be allowed.  Many things in the classroom are my personal property; please treat these items with respect.  You are responsible for reading your Student Handbook as provided you by SF High School.  Other rules that apply to classroom situations can be found in the handbook or the Student Code of Conduct.

I look forward to working with each of you this year and I am expecting great things from the students of Sanford-Fritch High School.
